I still love how simple the lines are on this body style...

I even like these BBS wheels (any help on what they are?) and the RFRB grille.

I do wish it was Cashmere Yellow; then it would be perfect!

those BBS are the OEM Subaru wheels so I don’t think they have a name like GT or LM.

My best mate had a Legacy GT for years, got it for a steal from a guy who didn’t know what he had. Unfortunately getting parts for the EJ20TT was fairly difficult as Subaru Australia were no help and the engine didn’t share quite as much with the EJ20T’s as you’d hope, and he got sick of ordering sensors and the like from Japan and sold it for an R32 Skyline GTS-T

I believe you’re right about the wheels being Subaru specific. They appear to be optional wheels for the Japanese market, which is why I didn’t recognize them.

I can’t imagine Subaru of America would be any better for parts. I don’t think I’d let that stop me, but I can imagine how tiresome ordering parts from overseas would get.

I think they might even be the OEM BBS wheels from the gen 3 Legacy GT/B4. They look a bit too big. I believe the gen2 ones were 16" and the gen3 ones were 17"

2022 actually. I’m so torn on this. Ever since I lived in Europe ‘04-05, I’ve said that I’m going to import one of these when 25 years is up. Pininfarinia absolutely knocked it out the park with the 406. But French car, assembled in Italy from a brand that has had no US presence in decades scares me a bit.

They seem to be OEM equipment on the 3rd gen Legacy for Australia.

Kinja'd!!!

I seem to recall that the 2nd gen Legacy GT used 17" wheels, while the rest of the lineup used 15" or 16" depending on the model.

I’m not 100% sure on this, but couldn’t you import a car that is nearly identical to cars sold here provided you get a letter from the manufacturer that it complies or something? We got that legacy wagon and hell, mail carriers had RHD legacy wagons too. The engine would be the only rub but if you left stock emissions equipment when it came over, I think it would pass the late 90s standards.

It probably could be done, though, I’m not sure how willing Subaru would be to provide that letter (nor what type of small, but necessary changes that would need to be made).

Speaking of the RHD postal wagons, there have been several cases of people buying JDM half-cuts and swapping them into postal wagons. The only issue there is that pretty much all of the postal wagons are beyond thrashed at this point (220K + miles, and lots of rust).

I personally have no problem waiting the ~7 years for these to become legal the slightly easier way. In the meantime, there are a few other things I wouldn’t mind having first.

But the fact that it's based on a relatively standard family car hopefully means that reliability isn't as big of an issue as with something more exclusive like an XM (which I also want).

My mates JDM Gen2 Legacy GT definitely had 16" BBS meshies. because we often talked about getting the 17" ones for it from an AUDM gen3 B4

My mistake; it was only the GT-B that had 17" standard.

Kinja'd!!!

These are the wheels on the GT in the 1998 JDM brochure. That doesn’t mean 16" BBS mesh wheels weren’t available at some point.

Kinja'd!!!

Interestingly, it turns out that the BBS wheels I was curious about were, in fact, optional on the 2nd gen in Japan. This was in the same brochure.

I might have been mistaken too, on looking for pics of the same wheels I can only come up with these:

Kinja'd!!!

which are quite a bit different. my memory tries to tell me his looked more like the 17" style but I could be wrong. This was around 10 years ago. I’ve asked him if he has any pictures cause all mine don’t show the wheels.

In fact, I have one photo that shows the wheels:

yaay. I miss the car more now. Though I’ve got my heart set on a Stagea or a V8 Commodore wagon as my next car
